Colonia High School Radiation Testing Will End Saturday
Woodbridge expects to get results back by the middle of May and will share the results publicly, said Mayor McCormac.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ ā The radon testing at Colonia High School will conclude Saturday, April 30 and Woodbridge expects to get the results back by the middle of May, said Mayor John McCormac.
When Woodbridge gets those results back, the town will share them with the public, he said.
Air quality testing is being done at Colonia High School ā specifically testing for radon levels in the air ā after 1989 Colonia grad Al Lupiano said he found an unusually high number of brain cancers and brain tumors in people who went to Colonia High School.

Most recently, Lupiano said on his personal Facebook page that he has now identified up to 110 cases of brain tumors or cancer in people who graduated from Colonia High School from 1975-1999.
"It is important to note that no 'brain tumor cluster' has been identified and/or confirmed by any federal, state, county or municipal agency," cautioned Woodbridge town spokesman John Hagerty Friday, April 29. "The information posted on social media by Mr. Al Lupiano has never been verified or vetted, nor has he shared the entirety and/or specifics of his research or data with any health or environmental agency."

Nevertheless, Woodbridge Twp. and the Woodbridge school district are taking this "incredibly seriously," McCormac previously said, and collecting data of instances of brain tumors and/or brain cancers in former Colonia High School students and faculty.
The testing started April 9.
The results will be reviewed by federal agencies including the CDC and the Environmental Protection Agency, plus the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Health.
Lupiano grew up in Woodbridge Township and he now works as an environmental scientist; he no longer lives in Woodbridge.
As of April 11, Lupiano wrote on his personal Facebook page that he now has tracked more than 100 people with rare brain tumors ā and they all are either Colonia High School graduates or worked in the school building.
Lupiano, his wife and his sister ā all Colonia High grads ā were all diagnosed with rare brain tumors. His sister died of brain cancer.
"Given the ongoing environmental investigation and testing, it is premature to comment on any potential link and/or causation of cancer diagnosis that may or may not be related to Colonia High," warned Hagerty April 30.
