Local Art Reigns "In the Good Old Summertime"

It's hot out there again today, but who says you can't enjoy the beauty of summer in air-conditioned comfort?

The Barron Arts Center opened it's newest exhibit, "In The Good Old Summertime," earlier this month, featuring photographs by local artists.

"There's a little bit of nature, a little bit of fun," said Barron Arts Center director Cynthia Knight while touring the exhibit.  "You have some whimsical, summery, beach pieces.  Some abstract, some are very versitile, everyone can see things for themselves."

The exhibit, which runs until July 29th, is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Stephen Kaplan, who has numerous photographs on permanent display at the Arts Center.  "He was very respected for establishing the 'A Taste of the Arts' series," noted Knight.  Kaplan's photographs "Cane" and "Lighthouse Window" are featured in the exhibit.

And perhaps best of all, if you see a photograph that would look perfect in your living room - almost all of the works on display are for sale, at very reasonable prices.  "One of our artists, David Langley, feels art photography should be affordable," said Knight, pointing out Langley's works, each of which sells for $50.  Langley, has more than 45 years experience in commercial advertising photography, is teaching photography courses at the Arts Center this fall.

Prices for pieces from the show start as low as $10, with the most expensive piece (EJ Davis's "Perth Amboy Barge" going for $800.  Other local landmarks featured in the show include Diana Krumins' "While Crabbing on Barnegat Bay From Jetty," Paul Moran's "Wildwood," and Lauren Curtis' trio of photographs featuring Coney Island.
