UPDATE: One Dead, Truck Lanes Reopened After 40-Vehicle New Jersey Turnpike 'Skating Rink' Crash

The southbound truck lanes on the New Jersey Turnpike were temporarily closed after one person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash late Monday involving six trucks and a full-loaded bus, police said.

News reports indicated that the number of vehicles involved the crash could have exceeded 20, and several people were injured.

A Twitter user who photographed the scene of the crash said the roads were a “skating rink” between Exits 8 and 8a. “must have been a flash freeze,” he wrote.

At approximately 9:11 p.m., the New Jersey State Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash on the New Jersey Turnpike at milepost 71.3 in the southbound lanes, according to the State Police’s Facebook page.

The State Police confirmed that one fatality occurred in the Cranbury Township crash in Middlesex County, police said.

There 15 vehicles included four tractor-trailers, two box trucks, a fully-loaded bus and multiple cars, police said.

Troopers were on scene actively investigating the crash late Monday. All southbound lanes were closed.
