Senior Artists Showcase Their Work in Barron Center Exhibition
Woodbridge senior citizens have lent their talents and works to the 32nd annual art exhibition at the Barron Arts Center ending Monday.
Talent and ability isn't solely the province of the young. The proof is apparent at the Barron Arts Center this week, with the hosting of the works of township seniors at the 32nd Annual Senior Citizens’ Juried Art Exhibition, part of a month-long celebration of senior citizens in Woodbridge.
Working in a wide variety of mediums, the art created by the hands and hearts of older residents showed that age is not an impediment to genuine artistic inclinations. Dozens of Woodbridge area artists submitted original masterpieces on display.
The exhibition will culminate with a reception on the closing day, Monday, May 9, from 5 to 7 pm.

In order to submit artwork, participants had to be at least 60 years old and live in or around the Woodbridge Township area.
Skill level was neither a factor nor apparent with regards to submissions, as professionals and beginners alike took part in the event. Though the pieces varied in expertise from those who merely engage in art as a pastime to those who are career artists, it was a fact that could have easily gone unnoticed.

Each piece of artwork is aptly designated, be it done by a professional or a skillful amateur. All of the pieces appear to have been crafted with the most skillful and art-trained hands, though the labels may seem to suggest otherwise.
Submissions were made in the following categories: oil; acrylic; watercolor; pastel; printmaking; drawings including pencil, pen & ink, chalk and charcoal; mixed media including collage; photography and sculpture. Pieces have been awarded first, second and third place as well as honorable mention in professional and non-professional categories.
The artworks can be viewed today from 2 to 4 pm, and on Monday, the closing day of the exhibit, frm 11 am to 4 pm.
