Superheroes in Woodbridge and Dinosaurs in Rahway this Weekend
The Grab & Go Kids Planner has five local, family-friendly things for the kids

It’s Grab & Go Kids Planner time! Stuck for ideas to entertain the kids this weekend? We’ve got you covered!
This week, we’ve got superheroes in Woodbridge, dinosaurs in Rahway, and a hippo on a shoe-shopping trip in Westfield. We’ve also got family fun in Metuchen and a planetarium show called “The Problem With Pluto,” sure to entertain anyone with strong feelings one way or another on the former smallest planet in the solar system.
As always, be sure to tell us if you think we forgot something. And if you know of an event that deserves a mention in this planner in the future, be sure to add it to the calendar!

- The Problem With Pluto at Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium; 118 Lamington Rd., Branchburg; 908-231-8805; Price: $6; Saturday, 3 PM
Most of us grew up with Pluto as a planet, and if you’re anything like me (…admittedly, a nerd), you were heartbroken when Pluto was stripped of its planetary status a few years back. This show at the Planetarium at Raritan Valley Community College allows you to follow a girl named Lucy as she tries to determine Pluto’s status as a planet by learning about the other planets in the solar system.
- Metuchen Family Fun Day at Old Franklin School; 491 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen; 908-616-6822; Price: $5 per family; Saturday, 11 AM-3 PM
It’s been a pretty miserable week weather-wise, but it looks like the rain and general blah-type weather may hold off for a bit this weekend. Perfect timing, too, as Metuchen will hold its Family Fun Day Saturday afternoon. Family-friendly musical entertainment, balloon animals, juggling, and stories highlight the fair, which is designed pre-and-elementary school kids and their families. Get out there Saturday before the rain comes back!
- Reading by children’s author Sue Fleiss at The Town Book Store, 270 West Broad Street, Westfield; 908-233-3535; Price: FREE; Saturday, 11 AM-1 PM
Shoes For Me! author Sue Fleiss will be at the Town Book Store, one of my personal favorite bookstores in the area, located in downtown Westfield. Fleiss will be reading from her book (about a hippo and her mom looking for the perfect pair of shoes) for kids and families Saturday afternoon. Be sure to wear your favorite shoes!
