Woodbridge Police Officers Charged in Car Crash Cover-up, Prosecutor Says

Officers David Hughes and Amanda Felicies lied to protect an off-duty officer who had gotten into a car crash off Rt. 9, prosecutors charge.

Woodbridge, NJ - Two Woodbridge township police officers were arrested Friday and charged with providing false information to cover up and protect another off-duty officer who had gotten into a car crash in the township in May, prosecutors allege.

Officer David Hughes, 30, of Port Reading, was charged with falsifying or tampering with records and tampering with public records. His partner, Officer Amanda Felicies, 29, of Fords, was charged with false swearing for lying to authorities during the investigation into the crash, said Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Woodbridge Police Director Robert Hubner.

An investigation by the Woodbridge Police Department determined that Hughes and Felicies were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash in Woodbridge on May 23, 2015.

An off-duty officer, whose name is being withheld, was driving north on Rt. 9 and exited onto West Pond Road when his Mitsubishi SUV jumped the curb, was damaged and could not be driven.

Officer Hughes filed a false report that day to protect the unnamed officer, Carey says. Officer Felicies later provided false information under oath on January 19 to police who were investigating the crash.

Both officers were released on their own recognizance pending further court action. They also have been suspended from duty.
