Woodbridge Twp. Issues Consumer Alert About Direct Energy

Woodbridge Twp. issued an important alert Thursday regarding an energy company that has been aggressively knocking on people's doors.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Woodbridge Twp. issued an important alert Thursday regarding an energy company that has been aggressively knocking on doors in the Township, basically harassing residents, officials said. Patch first wrote about the problem with Direct Energy back in November.

Effective immediately, Woodbridge Police Director Robert Hubner has now revoked the peddlers/solicitors license granted to Direct Energy/Birkshire Group, employees and representatives, Woodbridge Mayor Jon McCormac announced Thursday. This effectively prohibits Direct Energy/Birkshire Group representatives, employees or solicitors from continued door-to-door solicitations in Woodbridge.

The Woodbridge police department and town clerk said they have received "numerous" complaints regarding aggressive solicitation tactics and misrepresentations allegedly made by Direct Energy representatives during the course of door-to-door solicitations, determined to be violation of the Woodbridge Township Solicitation Ordinance 4-2.
