'American Idol' Alum's Court Case Postponed To Sept. 16
Constantine Maroulis allegedly kicked the mother of his child in the groin in self-defense during an argument.
Constantine Maroulis’ court appearance on an assault charge was postponed until Sept. 16.
Maroulis’ case was originally scheduled for Thursday, but the case was moved, Judge Russel B. Teschon said, to Sept. 16 so Angel Reed, the woman he is accused of assaulting, could be subpoenaed to appear.

Maroulis was charged with assault after he allegedly kicked Reed, the mother of his 4-year-old daughter, in the groin and pulled her hair, authorities said. Maroulis said he acted in self-defense because Reed allegedly attacked him after he told her he was leaving her. Maroulis claims he was injured on his right thigh when Reed threw something at him.
Maroulis, wearing a dark blue suit and black tie, his hair cut short, said nothing as his lawyer, John Hogan, addressed Teschon. Two women sat behind Maroulis and Hogan during court.

Maroulis and the women left the Wyckoff Town Hall in a black Jaguar and did not make themselves available for comments.
Maroulis placed sixth on the sixth season of “American Idol.” He starred in the Broadway musical “Rock of Ages” as Drew and was nominated for a Tony Award for the role.
Maroulis was also charged with violating a restraining order a few days after he was charged with assault. He allegedly accidentally sent Reed an e-mail, a violation of the restraining order, which bars Maroulis from having any contact with Reed.
