Andy Pettitte Speaks at the YMCA

The former Yankee pitcher and his wife held a Q & A.

Known for his famous stare over the edge of his glove, the former Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte spoke about his life on and off the baseball field to an audience of 600 people on Wednesday evening at the Wyckoff YMCA.

Pettitte was on stage with his wife of 19 years, Laura, along with Rob Skead from Athletes in Action and Pat O'Hagan, the YMCA Sports Director. Laura Pettitte is an accomplished singer and sang two songs before and after the discussion.

Pettitte spoke informally about his family upbringing in Texas and his rise to the Yankees, his relationship with his wife and four children and how important his Christian faith has been his entire life. The Pettittes are active in their local church.

His respect for his wife has grown tremendously since the demands of his career kept him away from his family for weeks at a time.

"I love her more today than the day I married her," Pettitte said.
