Colleagues and friends alike have been quick to share their thoughts about the teacher, who by all accounts was a valued member of the school community. "We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of @MrsRubenacker, an amazing social worker, colleague, and friend. We will miss you dearly, Paula. You will always be a Lincoln Lion," he said.

The aforementioned fundraiser has been live for just one day, but has raised more than $42,000 as of 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The organizer, Scott Blake, said the fundraiser will serve as a college fund for her high school aged children.

Here's his statement:

"Washington School Counselor/Social Worker Paula Rubenacker was an amazing friend to all. She was the heart of our school and the person we all turned to when in need. Paula radiated love, and she blessed our hallways for 12 years.
Paula had a zest for life and was adored by all. More than anything, Paula loved her husband, Matt, and her daughters, Lea and Eryn.
While we can’t replace what they’ve lost, we’d like to help her daughters achieve their educational dreams. We are therefore creating this college fund in memory of their beloved Mom."
