Hackensack University Medical Center is the best hospital in New Jersey
The hospital No. 1 in a ranking of the state’s best hospitals by U.S. News and World Report.
HUMC was among only 3 percent of hospitals nationally to be ranked in even one of 16 specialities. It was ranked nationally in five of them:

- 42nd in cardiology and heart surgery
- 48th in geriatrics
- 28th in neurology and neurosurgery
- 47th in ortopedics
- 42nd in urology
HUMC was also rated ”high performing” in six other specialities: Cancer, gastroenterology and GI surgery, gynecology, nephrology, pulmonology, and ear, nose, and throat care. Its emergency room had more than 124,000 visits.
Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck was ranked No. 9 in New Jersey and was rated a ”high performing” in gynecology.
