Bergen Partners With Rutgers To Create Master Plan For Parks System
The plan is designed to better address residents' long-term recreation and open space needs.

The county announced a new partnership with Rutgers University to create a master plan for the Bergen County Parks system.
The partnership between the county and the Rutgers Center for Urban Environmental Sustainability will lead to the creation of a master plan for the 35-park system that better meets residents' open space and recreational needs.
The partnership seeks to provide structure to guide the growth of the parks system, which was established 69 years ago.

“Our parks are valuable community assets offering a wide array of active and passive recreational opportunities while preserving the natural beauty of our county’s native ecological systems," Bergen County Executive James Tedesco said in a statement Monday.
The first stage of the project began this summer. Rutgers professors and students analyzed the properties in the 10,000-acre parks system.

The county will seek input from stakeholders and residents as the project progresses through online surveys and other engagement tools.
The plan is scheduled to complete by end of 2017. The final plan will be presented to the Bergen County Freeholder Board, who will vote to implement the plan or not.
