Bergen Animal Rescue Group Saves Houston Pets, Expects To Get Dozens More

More than a dozen dogs and cats arrived on Monday and dozens more are expected in the next few days.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — More than a dozen dogs and cats have been rescued from flood-ravaged Houston Texas thanks to a Bergen County animal rescue organization.

Pet ResQ Inc. of Tenafly received seven dogs, five kittens and a Siamese cat at about 3 a.m. Monday. The animals were saved from a flooded shelter and would have died.

"They were supposed to be evacuated, but weren't," said Pet ResQ founder Robyn Urman. "They shouldn't suffer because of a disaster. The ones in shelters are just as much victims as the ones whose owners leave them at home while they evacuate."

Urman said she expects another two dozen animals to come in Thursday and possibly dozens more this weekend.
