Franklin Lakes Native, Former NFL Player Says He Received '$100 Handshakes' While He Played College Football
Chris Simms told CBS Sports Radio that he received money for signing memorabilia while enrolled at the University of Texas.

Former NFL quarterback Chris Simms clarified comments he made recently that he received money for signing memorabilia while a student at the University of Texas.
Simms, a Franklin Lakes native and son of former New York Giants legendary quarterback Phil Simms, made his comments while co-hosting the ”Tiki and Tierney” show on CBS Sports radio last week.
“It was unbelieveable [my comments] gained that much steam. To clarify it, it’s pretty simple. Yes, did I receive a $100 handshake when I was at Texas? Yes, I did. Not once, but twice, to be honest with you,” Simms told Adam Silverstein of CBSSports.com. “It was not prearranged like, ‘Hey, can you come here and sign some autographs for me and I’ll give you money?’ No, this was outside of the University of Texas campus.”

Simms said he signed a couple of football jerseys for a Texas alumni at a restaurant.
“And of course, yeah, I signed the jerseys — not even worried about being paid — and then I got a $100 handshake, and I thought it was really cool.”

Simms said the University of Texas had nothing to do with the incident.
Simms had stints in the NFL with Tennessee, Denver, and Tampa. He is now an NFL analyst at Bleacher Report and appears on CBS Sports radio.
