Franklin Lakes' Phil Simms Out As CBS Football Analyst
Former Dallas quarterback Tony Romo has replaced Simms in the broadcast booth.

FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ — Former NY Giant Phil Simms is out as an NFL analyst at CBS Sports. He is being replaced by former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who announced his retirement from the NFL Tuesday.
Simms, a Franklin Lakes native, has been a fixture in the CBS booth since 1998. He may still have a role at the network, CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus announced in a statement Tuesday.
“As we welcome Tony, we want to acknowledge Phil Simms, who served as our lead NFL analyst for nearly 20 years,” McManus said. “Phil has been a very important part of our coverage since the NFL returned to CBS in 1998. His strong opinions, coupled with his tremendous knowledge and passion for the National Football League, has created a unique broadcasting style making him one of the best analysts to ever call the game. We are discussing with Phil his future role with CBS Sports. We cannot thank him enough for the way he has represented himself and CBS Sports during his tenure as CBS’s lead NFL analyst.”

People on social media had strong, and somewhat humorous, opinions on the move:

I don't hate Phil Simms, but his commentary on some of the Madden NFL video games is so negative you have to mute it. No lie.

I'll gladly take the Romo value hit to my dynasty rosters to not hear Phil Simms call the 'A' game every week
