Garrett Challenger Receives United Airline Pilots Endorsement

Josh Gottheimer will talk about airplane safety with the group's chairman Wednesday.

WYCKOFF, N.J. — Josh Gottheimer, a Republican candidate for the state’s 5th Congressional District, will receive the endorsement of the United Pilots Wednesday. United Pilots represents the more than 12,000 pilots at United Airlines.

The endorsement will be formally announced at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6467 in Bergenfield.

Capt. Rob Domaleski, chairman of the United Pilots Master Executive Council Legislative Committee, will join Gottheimer. They will discuss the need for additional air safety and national security measures to be implemented on commercial planes, including installing secondary cockpit barriers.

Gottheimer, a fiscal conservative and social progressive from Wyckoff, is running against seven-term incumbent Rep. Scott Garrett. Garrett has faced much criticism, the withdrawal of longtime commercial and private donors, and an ever-decreasing donor base.

Garrett raised just $255,000 in the first quarter of this year, less than half of Gottheimer raised.

Garrett told fellow Republicans during a closed-door meeting last fall that he would no longer donate money to a party fund that had supported gay Congressional candidates.
