Mosquito-Eating Fish Part Of County Control Strategy

Gambusia fish, which feed on mosquito larvae, were released at Samuel Nelkin County Park in Wallington Monday morning.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — The county is again trying a natural solution to help control the mosquito population this summer.

County officials released a school of Gambusia fish, which feed on mosquito larvae, at Samuel Nelkin County Park in Wallington Monday morning. The county released the fish in Wyckoff last year.

The release of the fish is an "environmentally-friendly practice" and will be used in tandem with other methods to help control the mosquito population and prevent mosquito-borne illnesses, county officials said.
