Murder Suspect Transferred To Bergen County Jail From Rikers

Arthur Lomando is accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend Suzanne Bardzell to death outside her Midland Park home.

A former New York City Police Department officer who allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death in her Midland Park driveway last year has been transferred to the Bergen County Jail.

Arthur Lomando was transferred to the jail from Rikers Island Tuesday. Bergen County Sheriff’s spokesperson Anthony Cureton confirmed the transfer Wednesday.

Lomando, 44, is being held without bail on murder, weapons possession, and contempt of court charges. He is due to appear at a hearing with Bergen County Superior Court Judge Susan J. Steele in Hackensack Friday.

Lomando is accused of fatally stabbing Suzanne Bardzell to death outside her home in October, authorities said. Lomando and Bardzell dated off and on for three years after meeting online but fought frequently.

Lomando allegedly smashed the driver’s-side window of the SUV Bardzell was sitting in and attacked her with a very large, machete-type knife, authorities said.

Lomando fled to New York City and attempted suicide by jumping in front of a subway train in Harlem, authorities said. Both his legs were amputated below the knee as a result of injuries he sustained.

Bardzell took out a restraining order against Lomando Oct. 8, which he allegedly violated four times the next day, Midland Park police Chief Michael Powderley previously said. Jeanette Lomando, the accused’s mother, said last year that her son had been dealing with depression “for some time” prior to the stabbing.
