Parent Survey To Inform Wyckoff School Restart Plan

District plans are due for review on July 27, but no official word has been given on when Wyckoff will present the district's restart plan.

WYCKOFF, NJ — Though parents aren't yet sure how their kids will learn in Wyckoff schools this year, they do know their voices will be heard.

Wyckoff Public Schools has not released plans for the district's fall semester as of Friday, but in a letter to parents dated July 10, Superintendent Kerry Postma said a Wyckoff Family survey, as well as a survey sent to teachers are staff, have been circulated.

Postma did not respond to an email request for comment.

Though there's no official timeline for a plan to be announced, Return to School plans are due to the Bergen County Department of Education for review by July 27.

New Jersey Department of Education guidelines also mandate that districts notify parents and staff of their plan at least four weeks prior to the start of school.

In the letter, Postma said that the Return to Wyckoff Schools Committee met Wednesday to discuss the plan, and a Board of Education agenda from the July 13 meeting shows that the board also discussed it at that time.

The Return Committee was expected to discuss scheduling, social distancing, healthcare and personal protective equipment, and curriculum and instruction at the meeting, according to the letter.

In addition, Postma wrote, the district's maintenance staff has been preparing for enhanced cleaning and sanitation protocols that have been outlined by the state.

The district has begun testing air quality and ventiliation within classrooms, Postma said, as well as began ordering PPE, healthcare equipment and additional furniture related to social distancing guidelines.

"We pride ourselves on our thoughtful and well-researched decisions in education, and this situation, though unprecedented, is no different. We will continue to be proactive and thoughtful rather

than reactive and rushed," wrote Postma.

For parents of Wyckoff High School students, no plan has been announced by the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District either.

In an email to Patch, Superintendent of Schools Beverly MacKay said the district didn't have an update as of Thursday.

"Still a work in progress," she wrote.
