Question of the Week: Should School Board Members Be Subjected to Criminal Background Checks?
Gov. Christie legislation was signed earlier this month.

Earlier this month Gov. Chris Christie signed legislation that would require New Jersey . The signing would disqualify anyone convicted of certain crimes from serving on a board of education or charter school school board.
Specifically the new law would disqualify anyone convicted of crimes ranging from reckless endangerment and drug possession to burglary and murder from serving on a board of education.
Members of the Wyckoff Board of Education, including school board president Robert Francin, told Patch he fully supported the measure, saying "it makes a great deal of sense to have board of education trustees adhere to the same background checking requirements that school employees are held to."
