SEE: Bergen County Blue Laws Make An Appearance On 'Jeopardy!'

There was some confusion as to what act the laws actually applied to.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — The county's infamous, and rare, blue laws, made an appearance on "Jeopardy!" Tuesday.

The $1,600 question was posed during the Double Jeopardy round.

"Bergen County, New Jersey has one of the USA's last blue laws, banning retailers from doing this."

Contestant Chris answered with "What is selling alcohol?"

No, host Alex Trebek replied.

Melissa rang in next. Her answer was, "What is selling alcohol on Sundays?"

Trebek said, after a brief pause, "We'll accept that. Selling anything on Sundays."

It turns out that not even the right answer was correct.

Food and beverages, including alcohol, may be sold and bought, but items like clothes may not be. The laws were enacted in the 1950s when local shop owners were upset about traffic caused by people going to department stores.
