Wyckoff Cancels Memorial Day Parade, More Due To COVID-19

The Memorial Day Parade and Junior Police Academy have been cancelled, and Wyckoff schools are planning for the rest of the year.

WYCKOFF, NJ — Wyckoff Mayor Tim Shanley had just wrapped up the township's first Zoom meeting when he received word that another resident had died because of COVID-19, he wrote in his May 5 message to the township.

Though Shanley's messages were hopeful as it pertained to the virus on both May 4 and May 5, there was bad news.

In his May 4 message he announced that the township Memorial Day Parade would be cancelled. The parade committee is putting together a video so the town can "still remember those who gave their lives so we can have the freedoms we enjoy as Americans," he wrote.

Shanley isn't the only one dealing with cancellations either. After Gov. Phil Murphy announced schools would be closed for the rest of the year, Interim Superintendent Jeffrey Feifer and Assistant Superintendent Grace White sent a memo to Wyckoff School District families.
