Wyckoff Library Hosts Panel Discussion with Authors Nov. 20

Author John Gregory will moderate "When Harry (S Truman) Met Sally: How Novelists Mix Real People and Characters in Historical Fiction."

A Wyckoff Free Public Library Rizzo Cultural Arts Series Event, “When Harry (S Truman) Met Sally: How Novelists Mix Real People and Characters in Historical Fiction,” will be presented on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Wyckoff Library.

The event will be a panel discussion with David Ebershoff, Ellen Feldman and Mary Beth Keane, with featured novels: The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff, The Unwitting and Scottsboro by Ellen Feldman and Fever by Mary Beth Keane

Wyckoff-based author John Gregory will be the event‘s moderator.

David Ebershoff’s most recent book is the international bestseller The 19th Wife, which combines a contemporary fictional murder mystery with the true story of Ann Eliza Young, Mormon leader Brigham Young’s rebellious younger wife, who divorced him and spoke out against polygamy. Ebershoff teaches writing at Columbia University and is an Executive Editor at Random House.

Ellen Feldman, a 2009 Guggenheim fellow, is the author of five novels, including 2014’s The Unwitting, about the Cold War’s devastating impact on one marriage. Among Feldman’s other works is Scottsboro, a reimagining of the notorious “Scottsboro Boys” case, which was nominated for the Orange Prize for Fiction.

Mary Beth Keane was named one of the “5 Under 35” by the National Book Foundation in 2011. In her novel, Fever, Keane brings life to Mary Mallon, the Irish immigrant cook at the turn of the 20th century who became forever known as “Typhoid Mary.”

John C. Gregory is the author of the recently published historical novel, The Schomburgk Line, and writes often about agriculture and public policy.
