UPDATE: Wyckoff Schools Closed Friday

Wyckoff Public Schools officials have closed schools on Friday. Ramapo and Indian Hills High Schools will also close.

WYCKOFF, NJ — Wyckoff students were staring down a delayed opening on Friday, but officials in both the public school district and the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District have changed course.

Both districts announced that schools are closed on Friday. In Wyckoff, after school and evening activities have also been canceled.

The districts originally planned for the delayed opening, but gave themselves room to adjust in the morning.

At Ramapo and Indian Hills, however, Superintendent Rui Dionisio offered a glimmer of hope for students hoping to get their first snow day.

Students were scheduled to start school two-and-a-half hours after their typical start time, Dionisio said, adding that bus pickup would be delayed by the same amount of time.

The district reconsidered that decision in the morning, however, once snowfall totals and road conditions became clearer.

"We will re-evaluate accumulation totals, building, and road conditions in the morning to determine the possibility of a full snow day," he said.

Forecasters predict 3-5 in. of snowfall in North Jersey starting Thursday night and continuing into Friday morning. The snow predicted for Friday morning is likely to cause the most problems, NWS officials said.

"Treacherous roadway conditions are likely, especially early," the NWS said, signaling potential trouble for morning commuters.

Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency on Thursday, which goes into effect at 10 p.m.

Murphy recommended that anyone who can work remotely or start later in the day should do so. Forecasters expect the brunt of the storm to occur between 1-7 a.m. Friday, with the highest snowfall totals projected for portions of South and Central Jersey.
