1. New Mexico, APS test scores show modest gains in reading and math (abqjournal.com subscription) — Albuquerque Public Schools students posted small gains in reading and math last year, roughly matching statewide improvements but still leaving New Mexico near the bottom nationally. Local officials highlight progress, especially for underserved groups, while warning that gaps remain wide and more accountability and support will be needed to boost APS achievement and attendance further.
   

2. Albuquerque Isotopes close season with chance to lead PCL attendance again (abqjournal.com subscription) — Albuquerque baseball fans have one last week to pack Isotopes Park and help the team clinch the Pacific Coast League attendance lead again, starting with tonight's homestand against Salt Lake. Beyond the standings chase, the club is rolling out dollar dogs, fireworks, Star Wars night, and a Mariachis jersey giveaway, giving locals several reasons to head out before the season ends.
   

3. Vigil held for 2 killed in 2025 Albuquerque shooting (krqe.com) — A year after a deadly shooting at an O'Reilly Auto Parts near Coors and Blake in Albuquerque, family and friends gathered Monday night to honor employee Richard Newman. Authorities say Newman and coworker Jesus Valed were killed after confronting a customer, who has pleaded not guilty and is due back in court this week.
   

4. Rain brings relief, raises flood concerns across New Mexico (kob.com) — After a parched monsoon season, steady rain finally soaked Albuquerque on Monday, delighting families while also prompting flood issues elsewhere in New Mexico. Local parents say the moisture is vital for crops, trees, and wildlife, and the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority is asking residents to shut off sprinklers while natural rainfall waters yards and landscapes.
   

5. Emmys prove big night for Pluribus and New Mexico film (kob.com) — A hit Apple TV series filmed on a custom-built Albuquerque set just picked up six Emmy Awards, spotlighting local crews and actors who helped bring it to life. The production employed more than 1,400 New Mexicans and continues the momentum started by shows like Breaking Bad, even as the state navigates recent production losses and a shifting film job market.
