Albany wants you to design its next flag (timesunion.com) — Albany residents now have a direct say in redesigning the city flag, with a task force accepting public submissions online and planning a community vote to choose the winner. Designs should reflect Albany's history and landmarks like The Egg or Nipper, follow basic flag guidelines, and will eventually be narrowed to finalists for instant run-off voting.
   

2. Albany County Sheriff's Office warns of scammers posing as law enforcement (cbs6albany.com) — Albany County residents are being warned about scammers who spoof the Sheriff's Office phone number and claim there's an arrest warrant over a missed court date, then demand money or personal details. Deputies stress they never request payments or sensitive information by phone and urge anyone receiving such a call to hang up and contact the Sheriff's Office directly.
   

3. Albany Cops Chase Down Teen Shooter After Bullets Pepper Buildings: Police (dailyvoice.com) — Police say a teen from Troy fired multiple shots near Clinton Avenue and Lark Street in Albany Thursday afternoon, hitting a car and several buildings but injuring no one. Officers chased him on foot and arrested him near Spruce and Dove streets, recovering a gun. The youth now faces attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and weapons charges in Albany County Family Court.
   

4. How dangerous are flare guns? (news10.com) — Recent flare gun incidents involving Albany juveniles, including one on a CDTA bus and another during a robbery, have police and safety experts warning how dangerous these devices can be. A Coast Guard Auxiliary instructor explains their intended emergency use and notes Albany County rules that generally bar people under 21 from buying or firing flare guns unless operating a boat.
   

5. Girl of Glass drop video for new single 'Third Knives The Charm," announce debut LP (lambgoat.com) — Albany metal fans can catch Texas deathcore band Girl of Glass at Empire Underground on September 9 as part of their upcoming tour. The show supports their debut LP, arriving September 10, and features them alongside The Callous Daoboys, Kaonashi, and Wielded Steel on a multi-city run.
