Fire Erupts At Steinway Piano Factory In Queens: FDNY

QUEENS, NY — A fire broke out at the historic piano factory in Ditmars Steinway Wednesday morning, according to the FDNY.

Flames erupted in the 60-foot silo behind the Steinway & Sons factory at 1 Steinway Place before 8:40 a.m., the New York City Fire Department confirmed in a tweet.

Video posted to Citizen shows a crowd of people gathered outside the historic factory to watch smoke eaters battle the blaze.

The fire was under control by 12:30 p.m., the department noted.

Steinway pianos have been handmade in the historic New York factory since 1880, according to the factory website.
