Fake UPS Drivers Shoot Man In Astoria, Police Say

The 53-year-old victim was taken to the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the leg, police said.

ASTORIA, NY — Two men who posed as UPS deliverymen shot a man Thursday morning in Astoria, an NYPD spokesman said.

The two unidentified men knocked on the door of a house on 24th street between 20th and 201st avenues around 10 a.m. Thursday and claimed to be dropping off a package for UPS, police said. When the 53-year-old man who lived in the house opened the door a struggle ensued with the fake UPS workers, an NYPD spokesman said.

During the struggle, the 53-year-old man was shot once in the leg, an NYPD spokesman said. The men disguised as UPS drivers fled the scene after the shooting, police said.

The victim was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital in stable condition, the spokesman said.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, an NYPD spokesman told Patch. Police have not made any arrests or identified any potential suspects, the spokesman said.

The NYPD's 114th Precinct has asked people to avoid 24th Street between 20th and 21st avenues while officers investigate at the scene of the shooting.
