LONG ISLAND, NY - Six Long Island restaurants will be donating a portion of proceeds to a non-profit benefiting veterans in honor of Veteran's Day. All day on Monday, the businesses will be giving 10 percent of sales to The Given Limb Foundation.

The organization works to serve the needs of veteran amputees. Founder Martha McDade started the non-profit after her brother-in-law, Maj. Lance Sullenberger (Ret.) returned from serving as doctor in Iraq in 2007.

"For the last 12 years, we have provided military amputees with adapted vehicles, as well as training in activities, such as running, biking, swimming, and kayaking—-all focused on helping our veterans achieve the quality of life they so deserve," she said. "Based on what we learned, we have extended some help to civilians in need as well. Our staff members are all volunteers, so nearly every dollar is spent on those we serve."
