Babylon Woman Drives Drunk, Crashes Into Patrol Vehicle: Police

The driver of the patrol car was hospitalized for injuries sustained in the Sunday morning crash.

A Babylon woman drove drunk and crashed into an occupied patrol vehicle, injuring the driver Sunday morning in Hicksville, police say.

According to authorities, Sandy Lally McDonald, 31, struck the rear end of a Radio Motor Patrol car while driving a black 2015 Fiat near James Street and Newbridge Road at 2 a.m.

The driver of the patrol car, which was parked and had its emergency lights activated, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries sustained to his neck, shoulders and back.

McDonald was not injured from the crash and took a Standardized Field Sobriety Test after officers said her breath smelled like an alcoholic beverage.

McDonald was arrested and charged with DWI, third-degree assault, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and failure to exercise due care to avoid colliding with an emergency vehicle.

She will be arraigned Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead.
