Mrs. Madeline A. Quintyne, Commissioner, Department of Human Services for the
Town of Babylon, stated “The Amityville Summer Basketball League is a terrific way to
both honor Mrs Coleman’s legacy and provide the youth with a positive and exciting
summer activity.” Darrel Young, fullback for the Carolina Panthers of the NFL and
former Amityville High School basketball star stated, “The community of North
Amitvyille needs real community engagement like this league and it will be great to
connect with former players and new players from Long Island”. Former NBA player
Mike James stated, “I am always in support of anything that provides positive
platforms for the youth especially for the youth of my neighborhood Amityville”. Local
business owner Carmen Mohan who owns Lite Tax on Sunrise Highway in Copaigue is
sponsoring the league and states, “I personally love the idea of this summer league
and I am very excited to see the youth of this community see first hand examples of
positive leaders and success stories from their own neighborhoods.

Co-Founder of the Summer League Daniel Lloyd says “I grew up and played high
school basketball in Long Island, we have tremendous basketball talent on the island
and a few players currently excelling in the NBA. However we do not have any outside
summer basketball leagues that compel our college and professional players to come
back during summer and showcase their talent. Summer leagues such as Dyckman
and Rucker Park have been successfully attracting the worlds best talent as well
cultivating tremendous community engagement for their local neighborhoods. We have
that same ability right here in Long Island and this summer will be the leading
example.”

Amityville Youth Enterprise mission is to give Long Island’s at-risk youth a hope for a
better tomorrow by teaching them to utilize what they learn from their athletic
experiences as a model to help their overall academic, social, and career development.
