Late 1700's Babylon Home To Be Demolished
A home on Deer Park Avenue and Ketewamoke Avenue will be demolished to make way for three homes.
One of Babylon Village's oldest known homes is set to be a victim of the wrecking ball soon after being bought up by a local family.
The home, located at the corner of Deer Park Avenue and Ketewamoke Avenue, is a white Colonial was bought up by members of the Ognibene family who plan to demolish it within a year to make way for three new homes on the site, according to a report by Newsday. The Ognibene's own a beauty salon in the village and pizza parlor nearby.
Newsday reports the home has little to do in the village's civic history but many neighbors have reported their displeasure in the home being taken down.

"It breaks my heart to see the old house come down," Legislator Wayne Horsley told Newsday. "To lose a house that's so visible is sad."

The real estate site redfin.com shows property had been sold for $450,000 in June. The new houses will be a part of a project call "Indian Crossing Babylon" and will sit on a fifth to a quarter of an acre each and starting as high as $639,000, according to a website for the project.
Members of the community that have been upset have voiced their opinion online, although not at recent village board meetings. A petition has been set up by Bablyonians to save the home from destruction. If you are interested in signing, check out the website here.
