Long Island Man Killed, Wife Injured in Crash
BREAKING: The single-car crash occurred on a Sunrise Highway service road late Friday night, police say.

A 76-year-old West Islip man was killed and his wife was injured in a single-car crash on a Sunrise Highway service road late Friday night, police said.
According to police, Walter Kneibert was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry east on Sunrise Highway, about a half-mile west of the Robert Moses Causeway when he exited the highway onto Sunrise Highway South Service Road and apparently lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole on the service road at about 11:25 p.m.
Kneibert and his wife, Ruth Kneibert, 72, were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip via ambulance. Walter Kneibert was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later. Ruth Kneibert was treated for non- life threatening injuries.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
