Historical Society Looks Forward to the Next Century

The society's headquarters celebrates a 100-year milestone.

The 100th anniversary of the Babylon Village Historical Society's museum building was October 23, exactly a century after the building was dedicated in 1911.

The museum's headquarters first served as the Babylon Library building, initially financed by community volunteers and donations. In 1970, ownership of the Main Street building passed to the Village of Babylon, which then designated it as the home of the historical society, founded in 1974.

Senator Owen Johnson, Suffolk County Legislator Wayne Horsley, and Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scordino spoke at the ceremony, along with Jackie Marsden, president of the society.

A reception followed the ceremony, with raffles for a handmade quilt, music by the Long Island Banjo Society, and photographic displays showcasing archival images of the building's history, along with notable memorabilia.

Horsley offered a challenge to the residents who gathered for the event.
