One Injury Reported In Babylon Village Fire: Chief

"The men and women that fought the fire for 6 hours acted admirably," Babylon Fire Department Chief Michael Golub said.

BABYLON VILLAGE, NY - One minor injury was reported in the Babylon Village fire that broke out on Thursday, according to Babylon Fire Department Chief Michael Golub.

The blaze was reported at 260 E. Main Street at 5:07 a.m.

The fire started at a two-story store along a strip of several stores and spread to the Sherwin-Williams paint store, destroying two of the businesses.

The blaze began at a new business, Empire Nutrition, which was scheduled to have its grand opening Thursday, News12 reports.

According to Golub, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the row of buildings without extending to the boat yard or adjacent business's and homes.

"The men and women that fought the fire for 6 hours acted admirably and we walked away with only one minor injury," Golub told Patch.

It is unknown if the injured person was a firefighter or civilian.

The North Babylon, West Babylon, West Islip, Lindenhurst, Wyandanch, Amityville, North Lindenhurst and Wheatly Heights Fire Departments all responded to the scene to assist.
