Panthers Take Home First Mayor's Cup Trophy
The Babylon boys baseball squad beat Amityville's Warriors 1 to 0 in the first-ever Mayor's Cup game.

The Babylon Panthers Varsity Baseball Team took home the trophy in the first-ever Annual Mayor’s Cup after beating the Amityville Warriors by a score of 1-0.
The game, played Friday, April 15 at Farmingdale University Stadium, featured Babylon’s Sanders Shanks throwing a four-hit shoutout with no walks and 12 strikeouts. Joe Flammingan hit in the lone run with an RBI single in the third inning.
The game was the brainchild of Nick Giampietro, whose son plays on the Babylon junior varsity baseball team after attending an night football game.

"It got me thinking, there are so many people here and so much interest in the game, how do we get something together like this together for the kids who play baseball?" he said. "I looked into what it would take to get some lights for the baseball field, but it was too expensive and our field is not conducive to using them, but fortunately we found an alternative."
Amityville Mayor Peter Imbert, as the losing mayor, bought the winning team a pizza dinner.

"I think the Mayor’s Cup is a great opportunity for our baseball team to showcase their talent at a state-of-the-art FieldTurf facility under the lights and our kids are excited,” said Babylon Athletic Director Mike DeJoseph prior to the game.
