Police ID Boater Found Dead Off Fire Island Inlet

BREAKING: The 50-year-old man was in a boat that overturned last week. Two other men were rescued.

The body of a man who went missing after a boat overturned in Fire Island Inlet last week has been found, Suffolk Police said Wednesday.

The body of 50-year-old Roberto Vazquez, of West Babylon, was found about a mile offshore of the inlet on Monday, police said.

Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers responded to a call for a capsized vessel in the inlet near Buoy 3 around 5:55 p.m. on Oct. 11.

A 36-year old Wyandanch man and a 30-year old Amityville man, who were also on the 21-foot fishing boat, were rescued from the water and transported to a hospital for evaluation.
