Pride Car Parade To Take Place In Babylon This Weekend

"This is a major moment as the town of Babylon has never celebrated the month of pride which is June," one of the event organizers said.

BABYLON, NY — In honor of Pride Month, two local residents will be hosting a pride car parade in Babylon this weekend.

"This is a major moment as the town of Babylon has never celebrated the month of pride which is June," event organizer Roman told Patch.

The event will take place on Sunday, June 28 starting at 2 p.m. on Deer Park Avenue. The route will continue on Main Street down towards Lily Flanagan's.

Roman, who organized the event with Bob McKeown, said they received the support from Babylon town and village officials. In addition, several local businesses have shown their support and will even be hosting a car in the parade.

Roman is a Babylon native who just moved back here after five years and McKeown is a longtime Babylon resident and teacher. Roman said the two were determined to have a pride event for the town of Babylon.

"There many lgbtq + business owners and employees in this town," he said. "It’s time we acknowledge and show our support for their bravery , courage, and strength to be who they are. Working everyday to make this town better while also paving the way for future generations by showing acceptance and encouraging being yourself."

Those who wish to watch from the sidelines can grab a seat at any restaurant on the block. Participants are asked to follow social distancing guidelines.
