Students Spraying Mace Caused West Babylon High School Evacuation: Superintendent
More than three dozen people were taken to the hospital following incident Tuesday.

WEST BABYLON, NY - Tuesday’s scare at West Babylon High School that sent more than three dozen people to the hospital was caused by two students who sprayed mace into a hallway, West Babylon Superintendent Yiendhy Farrelly announced Wednesday.
“There was no chemical leak,” Farrelly said in a message on the district’s Facebook page. “This was an isolated incident and there is no cause for concern. The district’s top priority is the safety and welfare of our students and staff. I am pleased to report that there is closure to this event and there is no threat to the health and safety of our students and staff.”
Farrelly said the two students who sprayed the mace “will face appropriate disciplinary actions in accordance to the district’s code of conduct.”

“Everyone seems to be fine other than some minor dizziness and nausea, those types of symptoms,” hospital spokeswoman Theresa Jacobellis told the Daily News. “With the number of people affected, it’s definitely an unusual situation.”
The school re-opened Wednesday morning.
