The Follow-Up Files: Village Revamps Roadway Turn to Slow Down Drivers
Drivers must make a more deliberate, and slower, turn off Route 109 to head down Litchfield Avenue.
Just about one month after Litchfield Avenue neighbors and village board officials met regarding dangerous speeding in the area of Route 109 the issue was resolved with a revamp of the turn area off the busy highway.
Back in early December residents and officials met to discuss how to deter and stop speeding northbound motorists from careening off Route 109 and down Litchfield Avenue. The cut-off route is a popular move with drivers seeking to avoid the lights along 109.
Working with traffic experts the village decided to revamp the turn-off, incorporating a steeper curb area and pushing out the sidewalk to the west a bit, so drivers would be forced to slow down in making the turn. The work was done by village highway and maintenance workers and cost under $20,000, according to village officials.
