Town Of Babylon Closes Most Facilities, Keeps Some Services Open

There not been any reported COVID-19 cases involving town staff or facilities. Residents can still use some town services.

TOWN OF BABYLON, NY — Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer announced Sunday some changes and closures that will be implemented following the coronavirus outbreak. According to Schaffer, who declared a State of Emergency on Friday, all Town facilities are closed to the public both Monday and Tuesday.

Two coronavirus-related deaths were reported in Suffolk County Monday as the number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Suffolk County climbed to 74, according to Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.

Despite the fact that there not been any reported COVID-19 cases involving town facilities or town staff, officials have made the decision to close the facilities. During the closure, town officials will be disinfecting all buildings and workspaces in response to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. The offices of the Supervisor, Town Clerk, Tax Receiver, Tax Assessor, Planning and Building, Town Attorney, Parks and Recreation, Town Council and Youth Bureau/Disabled Services will also be closed to the public Monday and Tuesday.

Though they are also closed to the public, the offices of Public Safety, the Fire Marshal, Animal Shelter and Senior Centers will remain fully functioning with staff working both on-site and remotely to carry out key functions. Senior Centers’ meals on wheels programs are not affected by these closures. The Department of Public Safety will remain open 24/7 and can be contacted at 631-422-7600.
