Town Notebook: Green Housing Effort Kicks Off

Babylon Town is launching a competition aimed at fostering green homes.

The Town of Babylon  has launched its first annual Attainable Green Home Competition as part of a partnership between the U.S. Green Building Council, United Way of Long Island, LIPA and the town.

The competition, which is open to both professionals and students, seeks to find the best home designs that use building science and common sense design to help create the next generation of high performance homes that address issues of affordability, sustainability, efficiency, and environmental design.

The winning design will be built by the United Way of Long Island Youthbuild Program in conjunction with local contractors and volunteers. The house will be built in the heart of Wyandanch, where the Town of Babylon has implemented a major community revitalization initiative called Wyandanch Rising.
