Montauk Hwy. Repair Work Starts Tuesday Night

A major resurfacing project will detour traffic from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for at least five weeks.

Repair work on Montauk Highway, between Route 231 and Route 109 in Babylon Village, will begin Tuesday night for a five-week construction project running 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, Sunday through Thursday.

New York State Department of Transportation officials said the project is dependent on weather so the actual project time could be longer.

No street parking will be allowed on Main Street during the construction work period and the project includes road work on Route 231 just north of Montauk Highway.

Motorists will need to follow a detour path if traveling the highway during those hours and are urged to find alternate routes if possible.

The travel lane closures are necessary to replace deteriorated pavement with new asphalt and fresh pavement markings. In addition handicapped curb ramps at certain locations will be included in the upgrade.
