Buzzfeed Producer Goes On Mission To Return iPhone Lost On LIRR

Watch the full story of how the producer returned a lost phone to a Long Island man.

BAY SHORE, NY - A Bay Shore man had a stroke of luck when a Buzzfeed producer found his phone on the LIRR train and went above and beyond to get it back to him.

In a video posted on YouTube, Christian Nilsson explained how a trip to Long Island with his girlfriend and his cat turned into a mission to return a missing phone.

While on the train headed back to Queens, Nilsson found the phone tucked into a seat on the train next to the window.

"Now we could have given the phone to a conductor, but we had 2 hours to kill and I started thinking; what would Ellen DeGeneres do?" he said in the video.

With the phone locked, there were very few options on how to find the owner. Nilsson attempted to make several commands to Siri hoping it would help like "call home," or "who owns this iPhone," or "call mom," etc.

However, nothing worked.

The two managed to make a call the most recent dialed number, which was "Ryan." He texts Ryan, who turned out to be the best friend of the phone's owner, using Siri and he eventually calls back.

Ryan tells Nilsson the phone belongs to Kirk Ingebretsen, who lives in Bay Shore and passes Nilsson's information to Ingebretsen.

Ingebretsen's wife, Chris, then contacts Nilsson and the two coordinate so the phone was left by a garbage can on the train platform.

Nilsson then gets a text confirmation that Ingebretsen retrieved his phone.

I couldn’t thank him enough,” Ingebretsen told Newsday. “He saved me a trip to the Verizon store.”
