Latest Bay Shore Coronavirus Updates

BAY SHORE, NY — The new coronavirus outbreak on Long Island and across the nation is having vast impacts in Bay Shore, including the closure of schools and many businesses.

The number of cases of the illness caused by the virus, known as COVID-19, continue to rise and additional measures and closures continue to be announced. All "non-essential" businesses were ordered to close by Gov. Andrew Cuomo earlier in March.

As of Friday morning, there were 2,715 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Suffolk County, with 619 in the Town of Islip. Here's how Bay Shore and its neighboring communities fare:

Here are the latest local updates from Bay Shore:

SCHOOLS

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone closed all schools for two weeks on March 15. On Friday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that all schools across New York will remain closed until April 15.

BUSINESSES

Bay Shore restaurants and bars are offering options such as takeout, curbside pickup, drive-thru and delivery. On March 18, Islip town officials announced that parking meters in downtown Bay Shore have been suspended in order to facilitate restaurant take-out orders.

HOSPITALS

Southside Hospital has suspended all visitation within the hospitals until further notice to combat the spread of COVID-19.

CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES

The Diocese of Rockville Centre announced that all funerals, weddings and other services at Catholic churches across Long Island are canceled. Earlier in the month, the Diocese said all masses for a month — including all Holy Week and Easter services — would be canceled due to the coronavirus.

Town of Islip officials announced on Monday that town offices on 655 Main Street (Town Hall), 401 Main Street (Town Hall West) as well as the offices in 40 Nassau Avenue and 50 Irish Lane (Brookwood Hall), will be closed to the general public. Senior Centers closed until further notice, however, essential Senior Citizen services will continue, including at home meal delivery and transportation to doctors appointments. Seniors who use Senior Centers for meals may request home delivery by calling 631-224-5340.
Traffic Violations conferences scheduled for March 23 and April 6 have been canceled. The Town's Planning Board meeting scheduled for Thursday has been canceled. There will be no animal adoptions for 2 weeks, effective Monday. Donations will still be accepted. For Lost Dogs, call 631-224-5660.
WRAP Pail distribution will be halted for 2 weeks, effective Monday. All programs, classes, concerts and the exhibit at the Islip Art Museum are canceled until further notice.
