45th Annual Italian Festival Returns to Port Washington September 10–13
The John Michael Marino Lodge No. 1389 is proud to invite the community to its 45th Annual Italian Festival, a Port Washington tradition featuring authentic Italian cuisine, live entertainment, carnival rides, fireworks, shopping, and family fun.
The festival will be held at North Hempstead Beach Park, 175 West Shore Road, Port Washington, from Thursday, September 10, through Sunday, September 13, 2026. 
Festival Hours
Thursday, September 10: 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Friday, September 11: 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Saturday, September 12: 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Sunday, September 13: Noon – 9:00 PM
Festival-goers can enjoy a wide variety of authentic Italian favorites, including pasta dishes, the festival's famous meatball heroes, eggplant heroes, rice balls, sausage and peppers, and many additional offerings from specialty food vendors, including tacos and traditional festival fare.
The popular pastry tent will feature fresh cannoli, Italian pastries, cappuccinos, espresso, coffee, and the festival favorite—hot, freshly made zeppole.
The entertainment lineup offers something for everyone:
Thursday: DJ and Live Karaoke
Friday: Decadia performing from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Saturday: Live music from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by Any Way You Want It from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Sunday: Italian Band, Accordion Player and&nbsp;popular music from Noon until 9:00 PM
A spectacular fireworks display is scheduled for Saturday evening at approximately 9:00 PM.
Blue Sky Amusements will once again provide a wide selection of carnival rides for children and adults. Pay-One-Price wristbands will be available all four days, allowing unlimited rides during designated sessions.
In addition to the food and entertainment, visitors can browse a variety of vendor booths offering jewelry, specialty merchandise, crafts, and unique gifts.
Admission is free, with parking just $5 per vehicle. Food, rides, and Pay-One-Price wristbands are available for purchase.

The Bayside Historical Society's staff and volunteers are offering guided tours of The Castle and its exhibitions on the second Sunday of each month from 1pm-3pm. Each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes; two tours are offered, with the first beginning at 1:00 PM and the second at 2:00 PM. Admission is free, but reservations are required. Reserve your spot in advance for the September 13th tour by <a href="https://www.baysidehistorical.org/events-1/second-sunday-castle-tours-26" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">booking your free tickets on the BHS&nbsp;website</a>.
The Castle in Fort Totten is one of New York City's finest surviving examples of Gothic Revival castellated-style architecture. Completed in 1887, the building originally served as the Officers' Mess Hall and Club for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers School of Application. Come explore this architectural treasure in Bayside and learn more about its fascinating history.

Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation

The Parker Jewish Institute is hosting an educational program, “Shielding Seniors: Protect Yourself from Scams and Identity Theft,” on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Older adults and their families will gain information about recognizing fraud and protecting their personal information. Registration will take place on the day of the event from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by the presentation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Parker Auditorium. Light refreshments will be served.Participants will learn:

The Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York will celebrate America at 250 with a toast to Jay Medal honorees Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and award-winning Lincoln historian Harold Holzer.
The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.

The Jay Medal Soirée will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Jay Estate from 5:30-9:30pm. Cocktails, dinner, award ceremony and dancing. Cocktail Attire.

The Bayside Historical Society is starting our first-ever book club! In an effort to make history accessible and fun, we'll be reading historical fiction and biographies, including both classics and contemporary works. Meetings will take place on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm and will be facilitated by BHS staff or members. After the first meeting, book club members will choose new books from a curated list, and they’ll also have the chance to suggest additional titles.
Our first book will be The Personal Librarian, coauthored by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray. The novel tells the remarkable story of Belle da Costa Greene, J. P. Morgan’s personal librarian, who became one of the most powerful art and book collectors in the United States. From the early 1900s until her retirement in 1948, she amassed an extraordinary collection of rare books and manuscripts that became the foundation of what is now The Morgan Library &amp; Museum. Greene also concealed her identity as a Black American woman, passing as white in a segregated and racist society.
