Cops ID Bed-Stuy Man Fatally Struck By Garbage Truck
Alberto Leal has been identified as the man hit by a garbage truck in Crown Heights last week, police said.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN -- Police identified Bed-Stuy resident Alberto Leal as the man who was fatally struck by a city-owned garbage truck that turned the wrong way onto a one-way street.
Leal, 37, was fatally struck by a Sanitation Department truck, driven by Aaron Gilchrist, on the corner of Eastern Parkway and Brooklyn Avenue in Crown Heights early Thursday morning, said police.
Gilchrist was driving west on Eastern Parkway when he made and tried to go north on Brooklyn Avenue, a southbound street, police said.

Leal suffered fatal head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Gilchrist remained at the accident, but was later charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and failure to exercise due care, according to police.

Leal lived in southern Bed-Stuy, not far from where the accident occurred.
