BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A "Stop the Violence" event will be held near the site of two Bed-Stuy shootings as part of efforts to surge resources in the neighborhood.

The event will bring more than a dozen city and community groups to the corner of Chauncey Street and Malcolm X Boulevard at 3 p.m. on Monday.

It follows two shootings on the block, one fatal, earlier this month that police and neighbors say were part of an ongoing turf war between rival gangs. A third shooting in the neighborhood the same week also broke out on Herkimer Street, where a 28-year-old was killed.

The NYPD has upped patrols in the neighborhood since the outbreaks of gun violence, which follow a months-long surge in shootings in Brooklyn and across the five boroughs. On Thursday, at least four cop cars were stationed between Chauncey Street and Bainbridge Street.

The "Stop the Violence" event will include arts and athletics resources for young people, adult education and workforce development resources. It also coincides with Black Solidarity Day, which is held on Nov. 3.
