The Barbara E. Giordano Foundation Presents Salute to Women Veterans Honoring Allison Jaslow, Bronze Star Recipient

Dinner show to raise funds for a bi-annual summit for women veterans

WHITE PLAINS, NY - On Friday, October 20th The Barbara E. Giordano Foundation will present Salute to Women Veterans, a dinner show at the Doral Arrowwood Conference Center in Rye Brook, NY. The event will honor Allison Jaslow, Executive Director, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA). Allison is a two-time Iraq War veteran who served a year-long deployment from 2004-2005 in Taji, Iraq and in the Baghdad Area starting in January 2007 during the well-reported "surge" recommended by General David Patreaus for nearly 15 months. At 24, Allison deployed again as the Battalion Adjutant for a support battalion that was responsible for logistics in the entire Baghdad area of operations. In addition to being the Commander's right hand, she oversaw unit personnel and public affairs and was ranked the top Captain in the battalion during her tenure. Before leaving the Army in 2008, Allison was awarded the Bronze Star medal and Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster among other service recognition.

The evening will also honor Foundation volunteers Diane Brizer, Phyllis Finn and Helene Kelly for their longstanding support of the organization, and will feature entertainment by comedian Jane Condon (Last Comic Standing, TODAY Show) and the USO Show Troupe. New 12 anchor Richard Giacovas will act as emcee.

“An important part of the mission of the Barbara Giordano Foundation, Inc. is to educate the public about the contributions that women have made to ensure our national security, but also to ‘put a face’ on these individuals,” said Virginia Giordano, Board Chair. “Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and hear from our very special honoree former Army Captain and Bronze Star recipient Allison Jaslow and mingle with other women veterans and family members. This event will also provide a chance for attendees to learn about the Giordano Foundation’s bi-annual Summit for Women Veterans that brings together business, education, wellness and military community members to work to ensure that every woman—most of whom are mothers—are provided the opportunities to ensure long-term economic independence and personal empowerment.”

The Foundation is named after the late Barbara E. Giordano, a nurse, hospital administrator and author who championed the cause for every patient, demanding the best of care for each individual. While she possessed an incredible knowledge of “traditional” medicine, she had a strong dedication to holistic health education programs for women.
