Bedford Audubon Society Holds its First Members Photo Exhibit

“One picture is worth a thousand words! We couldn't agree more when it comes to communicating the beauty of birds and nature,” says Bill Cavers, Executive Director of Bedford Audubon Society (BAS), referring to BAS’ upcoming Members Photo Exhibit.

Bedford Audubon Society, celebrating its 110th birthday this year, is excited to be holding its very first Members Photo Exhibit. The exhibit will showcase the beauty and diversity of birds in our region and will be on display at the Katonah Village Library on Friday and Saturday, March 10-11, followed by a 10-day run at Bedford Audubon’s headquarters, Bylane Farm, in Katonah. The popularity of birdwatching has risen nationwide during the pandemic, and Bedford Audubon has experienced a similar trend. BAS’ varied offerings – from bird/nature walks to native gardening workshops and lectures – have all seen a surge in participation in recent years.

According to Cavers, with the growing interest in birdwatching and the approach of spring migration, now is the perfect time to introduce the community to the many beautiful birds that can be found right here in Northern Westchester and the surrounding area.

“Bedford Audubon's first-ever Members Photo Exhibit gives us a chance to show off the beautiful photographs taken by our members on their bird and nature walks. We couldn't be prouder of our members' passions and skills. Sharing the beauty of birds and getting people excited about them is crucial to protecting birds and the environment.”

A panel of three BAS members who are avid bird photographers themselves, helped organize the show. Twenty-four photographs were selected for the main exhibit; many more will be included in collages celebrating the coming of spring migration and nesting season. In all, 20 photographers and 50 species of birds will be represented in the exhibit!

Exhibit Hours and Location: The BAS Members Photo Exhibit can be viewed on Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11, 10 am – 5 pm, in the Garden Room on the lower level of the Katonah Village Library, located at 26 Bedford Road in Katonah. The exhibit will move to BAS headquarters, Bylane Farm, 35 Todd Road in Katonah, and be available for viewing Tuesday through Saturday, March 14-18 and Monday through Friday, March 20-24, 10 am – 4 pm. Photographs will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefitting the Bedford Audubon Society, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
